as far as I can tell, it’s supposed to be a substation of sorts and the huge manhole cover was damaged.
Edit: So the government replied on the tweet saying its supposed to be a water pump with a damage cover. and that it’ll be replaced “Tomorrow”

In these parts, the roads usually get repairs just before the local elections.....

We do have very significant ones next year. If it goes the mayoress’ way, we’ll also have a recall election on, erm, her....

Is mananna used down South the way it is up here, which to say they really mean the pothole will be fixed “not today” with a specific future time intentionally not specified?

Amateurs, I recall the British ( I forget where) having to put up with traffic lights for 5 years at a section of roadworks

Yah, they're just trying to fool naive twitter users into thinking the government actually does stuff.

Oh they’re not upset with her... She’s one of the most popular politicians in the country. She wants to have the recall elections to boost voter turnout during the midterms. Her party is becoming less popular and in the midterms there’s a chance that they’d lose control of the Mexico City local congress and maybe even the national one.
People here tend to vote straight ballots. So if the mayoress is somehow in the ballot to bring out party loyalists, those people will also vote in droves for whichever candidate runs for local congress, borough presidency, etc.
It's a bit like how the British prime minister holds elections to "sure up" support in parliament. There's no electoral reason to do so, just political.

Ah typical.
According to a roadsign, a road has been in maintenance for 11 years.
I think they forgot to put it down...

OK. From what I have read, she seems to be bringing modernization and environmental reform to the city. Good for everyone. I wish her well.

Eh, she’s okay. I’m starting to like her a lot more ever since she distanced herself a bit from the president... By far her best programs are community outreach centers... Those are pretty cool. But the city is less safe, and she also made a mess of the construction sector... She’s somewhat populist in the strangest ways...its a mixed bag.
But I certainly like her more than the former mayor. He was a cunt.

Near to know that usage applies down South. Interestingly, it has different meanings in NM depending on the part of the state. Up in Northern NM, some telling you Mananna has a possibility of actually meaning they intend to do something tomorrow, or at least relatively soon. In Southern NM, it just means not today.

I have driven to Mexico City twice, both times in 2005, first for the NASCAR Busch Series event and the later in the year for the Indy Car event. The races were held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. City r oads showed lots of seismic history and traffic was bonkers. I never had an opportunity to sight see while I was there. Maybe some time in the future I’ll have the opportunity to return.

The current president was mayor back then, and his enviroment secretary is the mayoress now. Its a strange place. As much as the last mayor was a cunt, he was great for tourists... Now that he's gone I think tourism will fall a bit.

One thing I liked about Houston wa s that in 2016 they put in place a policy that every reported pothole would be fixed within one business day. And they apparently they come close to that goal (and hit 100% in 2018). The one time I reported one it did indeed get fixed the next day.
Don’t know how much more that costs than the usual policy of ignoring them, but it seems like a really good approach.

Sounds like an interesting policy... Though here I’d rather have the government fix twenty things quicker than potholes (things that Houston probably has more under control) , and I say this as a person that has lost a significant amount of money due to potholes.

That's sounds about right. We had that many road works at one point we even had a 'cone hotline' to find out what sort of work was being done, when it was likely to be finished, alternative routes, etc...

Here in my county it's easy to report road defects online at the council's website. The thing that kicks there into gear is if you damage a wheel on a pothole, you pay for the bill, but if that pothole has been reported to the council and not fixed, then the council is responsible for any damage too your car.

Amateurs !!! Not too long after I moved to DC in the late 90's they were working on the small tunnel on Massachusetts Ave NW, they closed one side of it and started working. Then after a few months they stopped working on it, with one side of the tunnel closed and it stayed that way . . . . for like 5 years. I don’t even know how long that stretch of road was fucked up because I rarely left the Hill and everyone knew that piece of road was fucked up and changed how they got through that part of town. Eventually it all got fixed but I never found out what they story was.
